Why this land matters
This property sits within the endangered Coastal Douglas-fir ecosystem, one of the rarest and most at-risk habitat types in British Columbia. It shelters mature and old-growth trees, ecosystems and species at risk, and the mainstem and estuary of Lasqueti's only permanent salmon stream. Directly adjacent to the existing Lasqueti Island Ecological Reserve, this acquisition would connect and expand protected habitat rather than leave it isolated — securing a wildlife corridor and watershed for generations to come.
This property protects:
- Endangered Coastal Douglas-fir (CDF) Biogeoclimatic Ecosystem
Classification (BEC) zone - Mature and old growth trees
- Adjacent to Lasqueti Island Ecological Reserve
- Also adjacent to BCPF’s West Trematon property
- Ecosystems and species at risk
- Includes mainstem and estuary of Lasqueti’s only permanent
stream (salmon stream)
