You have a rare opportunity to protect 100 acres (40.5 hectares) in Desolation Sound—one of British Columbia’s most dramatic and world-renowned marine areas.

We’ve secured an agreement to purchase this property in Prideaux Haven for $2.5 million. The Wilson 5 Foundation has generously agreed to match every gift—leaving $1.25 million to raise by September 29th, 2025.

100% of your gift will make sure this piece of our natural heritage is protected forever.

About Prideaux Haven and Desolation Sound

Prideaux Haven is one of the most cherished places in Desolation Sound. Visitors from around the world come to paddle, sail, and marvel at the rich sea life and dramatic views.

The property includes green forests reaching down to almost 1 kilometre of shoreline. It borders Desolation Sound Marine Provincial Park and faces the East Redonda Island Ecological Reserve, meaning its protection will directly strengthen an existing network of conservation lands.

The area also provides critical nesting habitat for the marbled murrelet, a small seabird that flies inland to lay its eggs high in old-growth coastal trees. Offshore, lush eelgrass beds ripple beneath the tide. These underwater meadows shelter young fish, feed waterfowl, and store blue carbon, which helps slow climate change.

Join the Effort

“This is one of those iconic places that people assume must already be protected,” says Andy Day, CEO of BC Parks Foundation. “But it’s not. Right next door, logging is happening, and there is a competing offer for development or forestry on this property. With your support, we have a real chance to keep this area beautiful.”

This protection effort is supported by the Tla’amin Nation, on whose traditional territories Prideaux Haven lies.

Your gift—no matter the size—brings us closer to securing this rare jewel of Desolation Sound. Every dollar will be matched and will go directly toward the purchase and permanent protection of this property in Prideaux Haven.
