You Did It!

We’re thrilled to share that together you successfully raised $1.25 million to protect 100 acres of coastal forest and nearly one kilometre of untouched shoreline in Prideaux Haven. With the Wilson 5 Foundation’s matching gift, that’s $2.5 million secured for conservation — because of you!

This achievement was possible because hundreds of people stepped up for nature. We’re grateful to Marine Parks Forever Society, Brian Piwek, Elaine Godwin, a generous anonymous donor, and especially to the many new supporters who joined the BC Parks Foundation community to help bring this campaign across the finish line.

About This Property

On these 100 acres (40.5 hectares) in the heart of Desolation Sound, coastal forests, nearly a kilometre of shoreline, and nesting habitat for the threatened marbled murrelet will stay safe — for now, for all, for always.

The property provides critical nesting habitat for the marbled murrelet, a small seabird that flies inland to lay its eggs high in old-growth coastal trees. Offshore, lush eelgrass beds shelter young fish, feed waterfowl, and store blue carbon, helping slow climate change.

Prideaux Haven is also one of the most iconic destinations in Desolation Sound, drawing visitors from around the world to paddle, sail, and experience its rich marine life and dramatic scenery.

Where is This Property?

The property is located in the heart of Desolation Sound, a world-renowned marine area on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, north of Powell River. Known for its sheltered coves, warm waters, and stunning mountain backdrops, Desolation Sound is a bucket-list destination for boaters and paddlers from around the globe.

The property directly borders Desolation Sound Marine Provincial Park and faces the East Redonda Island Ecological Reserve, meaning its protection strengthens an important network of conservation lands in this iconic coastal region.

Prideaux Haven lies within the traditional territories of the Tla’amin, who supported this conservation project.

Why is Prideaux Haven Important?

Protecting Prideaux Haven secures a rare piece of our natural heritage in one of BC’s most dramatic coastal regions.

It ensures that coastal forests, bird nesting sites, and productive eelgrass beds remain intact, supporting biodiversity and storing carbon. Its protection also strengthens a broader conservation network by linking to nearby protected areas, including Desolation Sound Marine Provincial Park and the East Redonda Island Ecological Reserve.

At the same time, it safeguards an iconic recreational haven beloved by boaters, paddlers, and nature lovers from around the world.
