A rare and ecologically rich landscape in the South Okanagan is now protected.
The Nature Trust of BC has successfully secured the 77-acre Marron River Grasslands, with support from BC Parks Foundation and a community of partners and donors. This site protects one of the province’s most endangered ecosystems, native grasslands, which cover less than 1% of BC but support more species at risk than any other.

The land provides critical habitat for wildlife including American badger, western rattlesnake, Lewis’s woodpecker, and pallid bat, while also supporting a vital stretch of riparian habitat along the Marron River. It plays an important role as winter range for mule deer and helps sustain biodiversity in a region facing increasing pressure.
Protecting places like this takes collaboration. This project reflects what’s possible when organizations, communities, and supporters come together around a shared goal: ensuring these landscapes remain intact and thriving for generations to come.
