Celebrating Colour The Trails and Black History Month
April 10, 2024Equitable Trails: Celebrating Colour The Trails' Impact During Black History Month!
February is Black History Month and your generosity is supporting Colour the Trails to help black and indigenous people of colour (BIPoC) communities enjoy nature.
Colour the Trails is a national organization dedicated to improving access to outdoor activities for BIPoC and those at the intersection of BIPoC and 2SLGBTQAI+ adventurers. Colour the Trails provides affordable access to outdoor activities – so that everyone has the chance to enjoy our parks and feel welcome in them.
Colour the Trails' next initiative supported by the Spark Fund is to host introductory hikes to Mt. Seymour's first peak, intermediate hikes to Saint Marks Summit, and a final 4-night backpacking trip to Mt. Assiniboine. The program will cater to various skill levels and emphasizes environmental education on principles like leave no trace, bear safety, and the 10 essentials. They will be collaborating with BC Adventure Smart for educational materials and sessions.
The BC Parks Foundation proudly stands alongside Colour the Trails as partners through the Spark Fund. This fund is not just about supporting initiatives; it's about sparking change. It's about empowering community groups to provide outdoor opportunities for every member of society. Colour the Trails embodies the spirit of Black History Month, and we are honoured to celebrate and support their impactful work.
