About this conservation project

BC Parks Foundation is proud to support the creation of a future regional park in the Creston Valley through the protection of a 4.4-acre riverfront property along the Goat River.

For years, local residents dreamed of restoring public access to this special place. Thanks to the Regional District of Central Kootenay's purchase of the property, that vision is becoming a reality.

BC Parks Foundation contributed $200,000 toward the acquisition, alongside Columbia Basin Trust and the Regional District of Central Kootenay.

A place for people and nature

Nestled along a peaceful, tree-lined stretch of the Goat River, the property has long been valued as a place to gather, relax and connect with nature.

As the future regional park takes shape, it will create new opportunities for people to swim, paddle, walk and enjoy the river while helping protect the area's natural values.

“Adding this land to the public trust is a real win for the Creston Valley and we are happy to have played a role in making it happen," says Andy Day, CEO, BC Parks Foundation. "It sets the stage for a regional park where people will be able to swim, paddle, and spend time by the Goat River in a beautiful place. Parks like this improve people's mental and physical health, boost the local economy, and are good for nature.”

Looking to the future

The park is expected to open following site assessments and the development of a management plan to guide public access, environmental protection and visitor safety.

As planning continues, the Regional District of Central Kootenay will invite residents to help shape the future of the park through public engagement. The Regional District has also engaged with Yaqan Nuʔkiy throughout the acquisition process and will continue those conversations as the project moves forward.

Together, these efforts will help create a welcoming regional park that can be enjoyed by the community for years to come.
