Park Enhancement Projects

Overview

Building a better park experience for everyone.

Park Enhancement Projects are the behind-the-scenes improvements that help people safely, comfortably, and meaningfully experience BC Parks and Recreation Sites and Trails.

These projects include trails, bridges, shelters, signage, docks, washrooms, and other infrastructure—as well as additional staffing—that go beyond what public funding alone can support. Made possible by donors, Legacy Funds, and community partners, park enhancements improve accessibility, safety, and stewardship while protecting the wild places people come to enjoy.

Goals & objectives

Improve accessibility and safety

Well-designed infrastructure helps more people enjoy parks and recreation sites with confidence. From rebuilt bridges and accessible washrooms to boardwalks and mobi mats, Park Enhancement Projects remove physical barriers and support safe, welcoming experiences for visitors of all ages and abilities.

Strengthen stewardship and park operations

Interpretive signage, sustainable backcountry facilities and additional staff support help ensure the long-term care of parks and recreation sites and trails. These projects help reduce environmental impact, improve visitor education, and make it easier for BC Parks and Recreation Sites and Trails BC staff to manage and protect sensitive landscapes.

Enhance visitor experiences across BC

Whether it’s a shelter rebuilt in a remote park, recreation site, or a new trail connecting people to alpine views, these projects shape how people experience nature. By investing in thoughtful infrastructure, we help ensure parks remain places of inspiration, learning, and connection.

Extend the impact of donor generosity

Park Enhancement Projects are made possible by people who choose to care for BC’s parks in lasting, practical ways. Through donations, bequests, and regional legacy funds, supporters help build and renew the infrastructure that makes parks safer, more accessible, and more welcoming, leaving a visible legacy in the places they love.

“I get the privilege of sharing knowledge about at-risk species and witnessing firsthand how many people care about them.”

Meet Melanie Tardif, a seasonal Park Ranger in the Shannon Basin region, a role supported through Park Enhancement Projects. From welcoming visitors at a Bat Booth to scanning cliff faces through a spotting scope for peregrine falcons, Melanie helps connect people to the species that call these parks home. Her work brings community science to life, showing how thoughtful investment in park roles and infrastructure supports both wildlife and the people who care for it.
