You did it.

A message of gratitude from our CEO and Board Chair:

September 3, 2019

Dear Park Supporters,

You did it! Your love for British Columbia and beautiful places like Princess Louisa Inlet has done something miraculous. In just a few short months, you have raised $3 million to protect a magnificent jewel in B.C.’s coast.

Today, we are overjoyed to announce the purchase has been finalized. We now move on to designating the land as a park or otherwise protecting it for future generations.

It is clear from the wellspring of support we received in such a short amount of time that people want to keep B.C. beautiful. Parks are the core of our identity -  they are what makes B.C. 'supernatural' and the reason why so many of us live here and visit. With tourism now contributing more to our gross domestic product than any other primary resource industry (including mining, oil and gas, forestry and logging, and agriculture and fishing), these places are also critical to our economy and livelihoods. But most importantly, they are anchors for our hearts and souls -  they are our cathedrals, our towers, our pyramids; the wonders of our world, inspiring awe, gratitude and fulfillment. In parks, we find our way.

Any funds that continue to come in will be put in our Parks Bank to protect more areas in Princess Louisa and British Columbia. Next year, together, we will climb another mountain. For now, enjoy the wonderful feeling and spectacular view! You have accomplished something truly fantastic.

In gratitude and celebration,

Andy Day, CEO
Ross Beaty, Board Chair

How you helped Princess Louisa Inlet

Located along British Columbia's Sunshine Coast, Princess Louisa Inlet is often referred to as the Yosemite of the North for good reason: it is considered the best example of a southern fjord in North America. This roadless, undeveloped inlet is a premiere destination for boaters, water-sport adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Earlier this year, part of the southern side was put up for sale.

The land

Three lots of land covering 4.5 kilometers (three miles) of waterfront and more than 800 hectares (2,000 acres) of pristine watershed in the inlet were put up for sale.

This is one of Canada's most breathtaking destinations. It is home to grizzly bears, mountain goats, eagles, the threatened marbled murrelets, northern goshawk, lichen and moss communities, marine life, and other flora and fauna.

Because of your support, we were able to purchase it and protect it, forever.

Our partners

The Princess Louisa International Society currently helps fund an annual park ranger position in the area, providing long-term stewardship capacity so that your legacy will be looked after into the future.

Short-term goal

Our goal is to permanently protect Princess Louisa Inlet by purchasing the lots and transferring them to BC Parks for conversion into a Class A Provincial Park, or land trust properties.

Long-term goal

There may be opportunity to bundle it with adjoining Crown lands, properties with conservation covenants and the existing park, to create 9,000 hectares (22,000 acres) of connected and protected land.

The marine portion of the inlet already has federal protection designations. If this long-term goal is successful, it will mean protecting this iconic inlet from mountain top to ocean floor, creating a unique model of whole ecosystem preservation.

Thank you for joining us and Princess Louisa Inlet, so we can pass on the magic of this natural treasure, forever.
