Saturna Island

Saturna Island

You Did It, AGAIN! Together, You Protected This Beautiful Place on Saturna Island!

Thanks to the incredible generosity of this passionate community, you raised $500,000 to protect 372 stunning pristine acres on Saturna Island forever.

This remarkable property, nestled beside the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve, is now a sanctuary for old-growth trees, rare Garry Oak meadows, and at-risk species, including the Northern Red-legged Frog and Great Blue Heron. It’s a place of breathtaking beauty, where Southern Resident Orcas glide past rocky shores.

With every gift big and small, you created a legacy—one that will protect this special place and all who call it home for generations to come. We are especially grateful to Marine Parks Forever, Ilka and Allen Olsen, the Bloom Alter Ego Trust, Environment and Climate Canada, and Wilson 5 Foundation for their generous donations. A special shout-out to Saturna Island Marine Research and Education Society (SIMRES) for their gift and for their support with community organizing and getting the word out about the crowdfunding campaign.

"It all added up to get us over the finish line, and we are once again amazed by the collective power of people working together toward a common goal. On behalf of the species that thrive here and the people who will enjoy it forever, thank you." — Andy Day, CEO, BC Parks Foundation

Help Protect Salish Sea Waterfront!

You have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to protect a remarkable 372-acre parcel of pristine waterfront on Saturna Island. Nestled beside the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve, this extraordinary waterfront property boasts extensive marine ecosystems, old-growth trees, and vital Garry Oak meadows that support at-risk species.

To realize this goal, we have secured an exclusive agreement to purchase this property. We have also already raised 90% of the total project cost from major donors, including a $500,000 matching gift.

That means we now need only $500,000 to protect this 372-acres of breathtaking Salish Sea coastline on Saturna Island forever. And that’s where you come in!

Our deadline is February 4, 2025 to secure the remaining funds. Please consider donating today.  It all adds up to get across the finish line.

"Every single dollar will go towards the purchase and protection of this stunning place. I can't think of a better way to kick off 2025, and I hope you'll consider being a part of this exciting crowdfunding campaign." - Andy Day, CEO, BC Parks Foundation.

The property lies within the Coastal Douglas Fir (CDF) biogeoclimatic zone, one of the rarest and least protected ecosystems in British Columbia. It provides a unique and vital environment that supports several species at risk, including the blue-listed Northern Red-legged Frog and Great Blue Heron. The CDF zone's distinctive features, such as its Garry Oak meadows and diverse coastal habitats, also create critical conditions for threatened plants like the Slender Popcornflower, Purple Sanicle, and the endangered White Meconella, and Lindley's False Silverpuffs.

Alex, whose father owned the land and cherished it deeply, shared a heartfelt memory from this beautiful place: “My father spent every moment he could exploring the property, maintaining the land, and gazing out at the ocean and the incredible views. One fond memory I have is camping at Cactus Point, the stunning rocky tip at the property's edge. We were fortunate enough to see a pod of orcas passing by; it was a special moment that epitomizes how unique this place is, and why my father loved it so much.”

Alex added, “The Garry Oak meadows, old-growth cedars, and stands of giant Douglas first create an incredible variety of coastal ecosystems. From ravens and eagles to deer, seals, and southern resident orcas passing by the shore, this property is alive with biodiversity. These kinds of places are precious, they're what make BC beautiful. He would be grateful to know that his beloved property is now protected and cared for forever by BC Parks Foundation.”
